How Do You Find Out Where an Image Is Used on a WordPress Site?

Imagine you’ve been running your WordPress site for a while. You have uploaded tons of images. Then added them to posts, and maybe even forgot where some of them are being used!

Now, you want to clean up your media library. Or maybe just check which images are linked to certain posts. But here’s the problem. Finding exactly where each image is used seems like a huge task!

You can easily do it using the media library tool. Let's see how.

Install Media Library Tool

To begin, you'll need to install the Media Library Tool plugin from TinySolutions. Follow these steps to install it easily:

Access Your WordPress Dashboard:

Log in to your WordPress dashboard using your admin credentials.

Navigate to the Plugins Section:

Go to Plugins > Add New from the left-hand menu.

Search for the Media Library Tool:

In the search bar, type in "Media Library Tool".

Install and Activate the Plugin:

Locate the plugin in the search results and click Install Now.

Once the installation is complete, click Activate.

Now that you have the Media Library Tool installed, here’s how to find where an image is used on your WordPress site.

Step 1: Log into Your WordPress Dashboard

Go to your WordPress site and log into the dashboard using your admin credentials.

Step 2: Navigate to the Media Library

From the left-hand menu, hover over "Media" and click "Library".

This will open the Media Library, where you can see all the images, videos, and other files uploaded to your site.

Step 3: Switch to the Media Table View

If your Media Library is in grid view, switch to the "List" view by clicking the list icon at the top left corner of the Media Library screen.

The list view allows you to see more details about each file, including where it’s attached or used.

Step 4: Use the Search Option

In the search option, you will find “Search Used Images (Attached Post)”.

Step 5: Check the Attached Posts Column

After searching, you will see a column that says "Uploaded to" or "Attached Post".

This column will show the page's name or post where the image is currently used.

If the image isn’t attached to any content, it will show “(Unattached)”.

Step 6: Use Bulk Apply (Optional)

If you want to check multiple images, you can select them using the checkboxes next to each image.

After selecting, choose the "Bulk Apply" option and it will show you all the selected images and their respective usage information.

Verdict

To find where an image is used on your WordPress site, you can do it right from the Media Library tool. It helps you locate where each image is being used across your posts or pages.
